Why are we involved in Smart Grids and Powerline ?
We have two business divisions focused on end-to-end powerline technology, as indicated at the
foot of our home page.
We are active advisory members in the EU working group for SmartGrids. Our Power2 division
specialises in broadband over powerline solutions for commercial premises. We are entirely
focused on how IP technology and electricity can be combined to create robust and intelligent
data networks.
Both of our founding members are veterans of IP SmartGrid systems in a service provider
environment, and in national and International IP networks. They built, launched and managed
carrier-grade systems throughout Europe, from Technical and Commercial Trials to live business
supporting millions of customers.
Our experience allows us to fully understand the challenges of implementing new systems whilst
maintaining critical live services for the end customer. We also have first -hand experience of
how IP technology upgrades can transform business processes, save both OpEx and CapEx and
enable superior quality of service.
Power Utility companies know that direct experience on the electrical grid is key to succesfully
implementing any new technology. That's why we have established a team of 180 experienced
and certified line-crew, who are leaders in construction and refurbishment of utility lines. They
already carry out significant sub-contract work, and have achieved a track-record of safety,
reliability and quality.

| Tom Walsh (BSc. Electronics / Computer Systems), is the former VP of Global IP Operations and Engineering for Europe's biggest MSO (Multiple Service Operator) where he deployed cable SmartGrid solutions, Broadband IP systems and networks throughout the EU, Latin America and Asia Pacific. He led a multi-lingual, multi-skilled technical team of engineers, and was responsible for 24/7 network and service availiability. Tom later became a technical due-diligence consultant working with banks and private equity firms on the purchase of EU MSO companies. Power2 and Smartgrid2 were set up to meet the growing demand for BPL and Smartgrids. Tom is a founding member and is our Chief Technology Officer. Patricia McGrath has been involved in international technology businesses for over 20 years. She is the former VP of IP Network Planning & Implementation, for Europe's biggest MSO (Multiple Service Operator). leading a of 40+ staff in Global Broadband Network Planning and Implementation. Her multi-lingual management teams planned and managed the roll-out of IP broadband in 14 countries, on 3 continents, and were recognised as leaders in the industry. Together with Tom, she then specialised in technical and operational due diligence for investors, and later began to focus on the emerging powerline sector. She is a founding member of Power2 and Smartgrid2, and our Chief Operations Officer. |
