HOW IS THE EUROPEAN UNION INVOLVED?
The EU has been involved in Energy Research for many years, helping
to transform the various energy systems into one which will be more
sustainable and compatable with the ecosystem. A number of Framework
Initiatives have brought industry, regulators, suppliers and academia
together to create an environment for research, growth and development.
Energy Research is a high-level EU objective, intended to re-invigorate and modernise the
European economy; contributing to technological innovation, increasing European
competitiveness, unlocking vast potential global markets and creating wealth with a new
generation of key skills and high-value jobs.
European research on FP5 projects has led to the EU's SmartGrids Project, and the first
general assembly took place in April 2006. We at Smartgrid2 are a part of this initiative, and we
are members of Working Group 3, focused on the development of ICT solutions for Demand and
Metering. http://www.smartgrids.eu/
